Continuation of the Journey Without Having to Stop in Croatia?

P-H20151116000525Two trains arrived at the camp yesterday. The first one came at 7.20 am with 909 people and the other one at 2.30 pm with 855 people. The situation in the camp was peaceful and no problems occurred. The atmosphere among volunteers, staff and refugees was cheerful. Altough, some of the refugees complained that they have not slept for days.

The floor was fixed at the distribution tent. Volunteers have installed new shelves and organized clothing. This way clothes will be easier to distribute.

The boy who arrived at the camp yesterday alone has finally been reconnected with his father  after 24 hours. The father had to stay longer at the border.

Yesterday we received an information that four Afghans have entered Croatia illegally on the border with Serbia. From there they were sent back to Serbia by the police. They called us for help via friend and stated that they need medical and humanitarian help. We informed local volunteers about everything as well as competent institutions about, allegedly, violent behaviour of the police. We are following further development of the situation.

Vlaho Orepić, Minister of Interior, explained that the police had removed data about refugees who entered Croatia from their websites. The data were daily updated since September 2015. The data provided transparent insight in movement of the refugees through Croatia. The decision was made due to the reduced interest in the subject. The Minister said that the police will maybe organize passage for the refugees so they will not have to stop in Croatia, reports Večernji list.

On Friday the Human Rights Watch Organization (HRW) assessed that turning Greece into a wild storage of refugees is not the solution for the crisis. The organization doubts in justifiability of their return back to Turkey. They think that this kind of moves will not solve the humanitarian crisis. We are reminding that the European Union is threatening with introducing surveillance over interior Schengen borders for two years. The EU is planning on doing this if Greece will not amplify control of the refugees on its maritime border with Turkey (the outer Schengen border on the South).

In Southwest Germany an unknown person threw a bomb over the fence of the refugee shelter on Friday early in the morning in Villingen – Schwenningen. Luckily, the grenade has not exploded and nobody got hurt.
